Moving in, losing keys, a deadbolt that sticks, a gate that will not latch: most home lock jobs are small, and they all go easier with one person who looks at the whole house. Here is what we do for homeowners and renters, and where to start.
Just moved in? Start with a rekey. The previous owner, their contractors and maybe a few neighbors still have keys, and a rekey makes all of them useless without replacing your hardware. Want different or stronger locks? That is a lock change or deadbolt installation. Tired of carrying keys at all? Look at smart lock installation.
A lock that is sticking, a latch that does not catch, or a key that only works if you lift the door: that is lock repair. Sliding patio doors, side gates and mailboxes each have their own page because each has its own hardware and its own problems.
A lot of homes we visit have four or five different keys: one for the front, one for the back, one for the side garage door, one for the gate. We can rekey locks of the same type to a single key, so one key opens every door you choose. If your locks come from mixed brands, we will tell you which can be keyed alike and which would need replacing to join them.
We do the job you called for first. If we notice something else, like a strike plate held by short screws, a deadbolt that does not fully extend, or a slider that lifts off its track, we mention it and give you a price. You choose whether to do it now, later or not at all. No pressure, and nothing appears on the bill that you did not agree to.
Our truck carries common residential brands, cylinders and parts, so most jobs finish on the first visit. Special-order hardware, such as some high-security cylinders or a specific finish, may need a second trip, and we will say so before you commit.
If you rent, read your lease before changing anything, or have us talk with your landlord. Many leases allow a rekey with a copy of the key to management. In a condo, the HOA may control the exterior hardware and the mailbox. We are happy to work within those rules, and we can leave a copy of the new key for management if your lease asks for one.
If the locks work and you like them, rekey. It is the faster and less expensive way to make sure only your keys open the house. If they are worn, cheap or not the style you want, replace them. We give you both prices and you choose.
Often, yes, if they share the same keyway. Locks from different brands may not, and those would need to be rekeyed with a matching cylinder or replaced. Send us photos of each lock and we will tell you what is possible before we visit.
Yes. We will install hardware you supply if it fits your door and is in working condition. If we find a problem, such as the wrong backset or a door too thick for the lock, we will explain the options before drilling anything.
Yes. Every tech who comes to your home is background-checked, and the business is licensed (LCO8635) and insured. You will know who is coming before they arrive, and the price is set before any work starts.
