Northridge has a lot of keys changing hands: roommates move in, roommates move out, and nobody is sure who still has a copy. We fix that on site, and we handle lockouts at any hour, including the ones at 2 a.m. after a late class.
Northridge splits into two kinds of streets. Around Cal State Northridge, between Nordhoff, Reseda Boulevard and Lindley, you find shared houses, duplexes and apartment buildings, many rebuilt after the 1994 earthquake, with keypads, mail rooms and parking gates. Farther out, north of Devonshire and west toward Tampa, it turns into larger single family homes on wide lots with long driveways and side gates. Northridge Fashion Center and the shops along Tampa and Reseda bring in car lockouts in big lots. Our techs know the one way streets near campus and where to find a spot on move-in weekend.
In student rentals, the common problem is too many copies of one key. A landlord or a house of roommates can rekey the front door between leases so old tenants cannot get back in, without buying new locks. For owners who rent rooms, separate keyed bedroom doors and a small master key setup can make sense, so the owner holds one key that opens everything. Newer buildings often use keypad or smart deadbolts, which are handy until the batteries die. In the bigger homes up north, we see quality deadbolts, sliding glass doors with tired latches and mailbox locks that have rusted shut.
Northridge is a short drive up from Van Nuys, so plan on 20–35 minutes for most addresses, a little longer near campus at class change. Text (657) 478-8248 with your ZIP, a photo of the lock, and the unit or building name if it is an apartment. We answer with a price and arrival time.
A rekey of the door they could open. We change the pins in your existing lock so their key stops working, and give everyone who stays a new key. Check with your landlord first if the lease covers locks, and we can leave a copy for them if needed.
Yes. We can key each bedroom door differently and set it up so your key opens all of them and the front door. That way, when one tenant leaves, you only rekey their room and the front door, not the whole house.
University housing and campus buildings have their own key rules, so please call campus housing or campus police for those. We are glad to help with off campus apartments, shared houses and your car, any hour.
