Half the people who call us from Universal City do not live here. They came for a day at the park, a concert or a meeting, and now the car will not open or the key is gone. We come to the parking spot and sort it out.
Universal City is a small, odd corner of the map: unincorporated county land on the hill above the 101, almost all of it taken up by the studio lot, the theme park, CityWalk and a cluster of hotels and office towers. Barham Boulevard climbs south toward the Cahuenga Pass, Lankershim runs along the bottom past the Metro station, and very few people actually sleep here except hotel guests and the residents of a handful of apartment buildings. What that means for us is parking structures, hotel garages, a big Metro lot and office suites, with lots of rental cars and plenty of out-of-town plates.
Most calls here are about a vehicle, and many of those cars are rentals or newer models with push-button start and a smart fob. We cut and program keys for most makes right where the car is parked, which matters when the nearest dealer is a tow away and you have a flight tomorrow. In the office towers we see commercial lever locks, storefront cylinders on ground-floor tenants and suites that need rekeying after a team moves out. The apartments along Barham have the usual unit deadbolt, mailbox lock and gate key.
Universal City is about 6.7 miles from Van Nuys in a straight line, so expect us in roughly 25–45 minutes. Garages here can be tricky to find, so text (657) 478-8248 the structure name, the level and a photo of the car or lock. For a car, add year, make and model, and we reply with a price and an ETA.
Usually, yes. Have your rental agreement and photo ID ready so the tech can match your name to the car. Some rental companies prefer you call their roadside line first, so check your contract, then text us if they are slow or cannot come tonight.
For most makes, no. We can cut and program a new key or fob at the parking spot. Text us the year, make and model and a photo of the VIN through the windshield if you can, and we will tell you the price before we head over.
Yes. We rekey the suite doors to new keys and hand them to whoever is responsible. Building entrances and elevators are usually controlled by property management, so we may need their sign-off for anything outside your suite.
