Sometimes a lock has simply done its time. The key sticks, the latch drags, the finish is gone, or it was a cheap one to begin with. We take the old lock off and put a new one on, usually in one visit.
If the only problem is that someone else has a key, a rekey is often enough. If the lock itself is the problem, change it. Signs of that: you have to jiggle the key, the bolt does not throw all the way, the knob is loose on the door, the lock was damaged in a break-in, or it is a bargain-bin lock you never trusted.
Changing is also the move when you want a different style: a handleset instead of a plain knob, a lever for someone who struggles with grip, or a stronger deadbolt.
Our truck carries common residential and light commercial locks in the standard finishes, so most changes are done with what is on board. If you want a specific brand or finish we do not have, we can tell you that up front and arrange it.
New locks drop into the existing holes when the sizes match, and most modern doors use the same standard bore. When they do not, we adjust the door so the new lock fits properly and does not rub.
Before anything comes off, we look at how the door hangs. A new lock on a badly aligned door will wear out fast. We check that the latch and bolt line up with the strike plate, that the bolt fully extends, and that the door closes without you having to push it. Strike screws get swapped for longer ones when the frame allows, which makes the door much harder to kick in.
Before we leave, every key gets tested, inside and out, with the door open and closed.
The old lock is yours to keep or we take it away, whichever you prefer. If several doors are getting new locks, we can key them all alike so one key runs the house. And if the change follows a break-in, we look at the frame and strike too, since the lock is rarely the only thing that took a hit.
Text (657) 478-8248 with your ZIP and a photo of the lock, inside and outside if you can. Tell us what you want instead, or ask us to suggest something. You get the price and arrival time first, and we only start when you agree.
Often, yes. We carry the common finishes like satin nickel, bronze and black. Send a photo of your existing hardware and we will tell you whether we have a close match on the truck or need to order it in.
It can. We set the new lock to match your existing key when the keyway allows, or we rekey everything to one new key at the same visit. Ask for it when you text us.
That depends on your lease and California rules for your situation, so check with your landlord first. Many landlords are fine with it as long as they get a copy of the new key. If the landlord is ordering the change, we work with them directly.
A straightforward knob or deadbolt swap on a standard door is quick. A whole house, or a door that needs adjusting before the new lock fits, takes longer. We give you a realistic time along with the price.
