Canoga Park works for a living. Machine shops, auto repair bays, apartment blocks and corner stores all need doors that lock at night and open in the morning, and that is most of what we do here.
The town started life as Owensmouth, and the old main street along Sherman Way still has the antique shops, bakeries and small storefronts to prove it. South and east of there the map fills with light industry: fabrication shops, auto body yards and contractor offices along Owensmouth Avenue, Canoga Avenue and the streets near the Orange Line busway. Residential blocks are a mix of 1950s ranch homes and two and three story apartment complexes, many with a shared pedestrian gate. Toward Topanga Canyon Boulevard the malls take over, with big parking lots and a lot of cars. On one afternoon we might see a steel shop door, a tenant's unit and a car key, all within a mile.
Commercial doors here take hard use. Steel back doors with heavy lever locks start to droop after years of being pushed with a shoulder, and aluminum storefront doors wear out their narrow cylinders until the key just spins. We carry the common commercial cylinders and lever sets on board, so most of these are one visit. In the apartments it is plain knob and deadbolt pairs, often painted over, and in the ranch homes the original locks are usually on their second or third set of tenants. Cars round it out: work trucks, older sedans with worn keys, and newer models that need a fob programmed rather than just cut.
Canoga Park is about 8.4 miles from Van Nuys as the crow flies, so expect 25–45 minutes, closer to the short end at night. Text (657) 478-8248 with the address or cross streets, a photo of the lock, and whether it is a shop, a home or a car. If a business is behind a fence, say who will open it.
A sagging lever usually means a tired spring or a worn lock body, and the latch missing often points at the door or strike, not the lock. We check both. If the lock is worth saving we repair it, and if not we fit a heavier commercial lever, priced before we start.
Not for long. We remove the broken piece on site, and since we have both halves we can usually cut a new working key right there. If the ignition itself is damaged we tell you what we see before doing anything more, so you can decide.
The cylinder has worn out inside, which is common on busy aluminum doors that open hundreds of times a day. It is a cylinder swap, not a new door. Send a photo of the cylinder face and the door edge and we will bring the right one.
