Tujunga has houses built from the stones of its own wash, and doors to match: thick, heavy and often older than anyone who lives there now. We fit and fix locks on those doors without making a mess of them.
Tujunga began as a small farming colony, and you can still see it in the river rock walls, chimneys and whole houses built from fieldstone, along with Bolton Hall on Commerce Avenue. Foothill Boulevard is the main street, with shops, a few small apartment buildings and offices. North of it the streets climb into the Verdugo and San Gabriel foothills, steep and winding, with homes stepped down the slope and gates at the bottom of the stairs. Tujunga Canyon Boulevard runs south toward the 210. It is a place where a house might be a 1920s cabin on one lot and a newer stucco build on the next.
Stone and older wood construction means deep door frames, thick doors and sometimes odd sizes. A standard deadbolt does not always fit straight out of the box, so we bring longer bolts, spacers and strike plates to get a solid install. Older homes still carry original mortise locks and knob sets, while newer ones have the usual knob and deadbolt pair. Hillside lots add gates whose posts have shifted over the years, so the latch no longer meets. On Foothill, small shops use storefront cylinders and back doors onto parking lots.
Tujunga is about 10.3 miles from Van Nuys in a straight line, so we usually arrive in 25–45 minutes. On a hillside street, tell us where to park and how many steps up the door is. Text (657) 478-8248 your address and a photo of the lock or key, and we send the price and ETA back.
It is a tradeoff. A key on both sides means breaking the glass does not open the door, but it also slows you down getting out in a fire unless the key is always nearby. We explain both options at the door and fit the one you choose.
Usually not. Often the latch or strike can be moved or adjusted to meet the bolt again, and a worn lock can be replaced in the same visit. If the post itself is loose, we will tell you, since that is a job for a fence or gate builder.
Yes, we handle that kind of lockout on site. Text us a photo of the side door lock and let us know whether the house connects to the garage. We will give you a price first and try for damage-free entry whenever the lock allows it.
