We are based in the Valley, so when you call we are usually a couple of freeway exits away, not on the other side of the hill. Text us your ZIP code and a photo of the lock or key. You get a price and an arrival time before anybody gets in the truck.
The Valley is a big flat grid with hills on every side, and getting around it comes down to which freeway is moving: the 101 along the south edge, the 405 through the middle, the 5 and the 118 up north, the 170 cutting across. Most blocks are postwar ranch houses, two-story apartment courts with carports, and strip malls along long boulevards like Sherman Way, Victory and Reseda. South of Ventura Boulevard the streets climb into the Santa Monica Mountains. Up around Chatsworth and Sylmar the lots get wide and some have horse gates. Every pocket sends us a different kind of call, and we take all of them.
Across the Valley we mostly meet the same few families of hardware. Ranch houses still wearing the knob and deadbolt the builder put in, sometimes sixty years ago. Sliding patio doors with thin latches, because so many houses here open onto a back yard or a pool. Apartment buildings with banks of mailbox locks and laundry room doors. Aluminum shop doors on the boulevards. And cars, lots of cars: this is a place where everyone drives, so lost keys and dead fobs are a big part of our week. Since most of it is common hardware we stock, the fix is usually done on the first visit.
Most of the central Valley is 20–35 minutes from the middle of the Valley. The edges, like Sylmar or West Hills, can take longer at rush hour, and we will tell you the real time when you text. Send your ZIP code, a photo of the lock or key, and a line about what happened. For a car, include year, make and model.
The whole Valley, from Burbank and Glendale on the east side to Woodland Hills and West Hills on the west, and up to Sylmar and Granada Hills in the north. We start from Van Nuys, near the middle, so no part of it is far. Text your ZIP code and we will give you an honest arrival time.
Not necessarily, but it is worth a look. Original locks in older Valley houses are often worn, and nobody knows how many keys have gone out over the decades. Many of them can be rekeyed so old keys stop working. If a lock is too worn, we will show you and quote a replacement before touching it.
For most makes, no. We can cut and program a new key or fob on site, wherever the car is parked, so you are not paying for a tow. Text the year, make and model, plus a photo of the VIN plate through the windshield, and we will tell you what we can do and the price.
