In Shadow Hills, the door that needs a lock is as likely to be a tack room as a front door. We work on barns, feed rooms, gates and houses, and we are used to stepping around a horse to get there.
Shadow Hills is one of the few places left in Los Angeles that is built around horses. Streets like Wentworth and Sunland Boulevard have dirt trails beside them instead of sidewalks, and riders cross on horseback. Lots are wide, with ranch houses set back from the road, barns, arenas, hay storage and pipe gates. Many owners board horses for others, so people come and go from the property all day. The 210 runs just to the south and the hills rise behind. For us that means long driveways, animals loose in the yard and a lot of outbuildings with their own doors.
The house usually has a standard knob and deadbolt set, but the outbuildings are a mix: barn doors with hasps, tack rooms with cheap knob locks, feed rooms with padlocks that fight the dust and weather. The real question on a boarding property is who should open what. We can key the tack room so boarders have their own key that does not open the house or the feed room, and give the owner one key for everything. Gates exposed to sun and grit wear fast, and a weatherproof lock lasts much longer there.
Shadow Hills is about 7.6 miles from Van Nuys in a straight line, which puts us at 25–45 minutes. Text (657) 478-8248 the address, the building that needs work and a photo of the lock. Let us know about gates, dogs or horses near the drive, so we arrive ready and you know the price before we start.
Yes. We key the tack room to its own key for boarders and set the house and feed room to different keys. A master key for you opens all of them, so you carry one key while each group only gets the door it needs.
Put the dogs away and close off the area near where we park and work, if you can. Tell us when you text, and we will call from the gate instead of walking straight in. Safety for the animals and the tech comes first.
Yes, if you approve the job and the price ahead of time by text or phone. Let us know who will be on site and which doors need work. We leave the new keys with that person and send you a written receipt.
