Near the water, locks wear out faster than people expect. If your key is suddenly hard to turn, or you are locked out of a harbor apartment, we can help.
Marina del Rey wraps around the largest small-craft harbor in the area. Along Admiralty Way, Via Marina and Mindanao Way you find big apartment and condo complexes, many run by property management companies, with controlled lobbies, parking garages and pool areas. The peninsula between the main channel and Venice is a strip of beach homes and small buildings on narrow streets with very little parking. The Oxford Triangle, tucked by the wetlands, is a quiet pocket of houses. Boat owners, long-term residents and people renting for a few months all live here, and a lot of them move often.
Salt air is the big issue. It gets into cylinders and corrodes the small parts inside, so a lock that would last decades inland can start sticking in a few years here. If your key feels gritty or needs jiggling, have it looked at before it snaps off in the lock. On doors that face the water we recommend locks with brass or marine-grade parts. Inside the managed buildings, unit doors and mailboxes are rekeyed between residents, and smart locks are getting common on condo doors. A sticky lock usually needs cleaning and lubrication, not a whole new lock.
Marina del Rey is about 14.5 miles from Van Nuys in a straight line, so expect 35–60 minutes. Traffic on the 405 or through the canyons can stretch it, and the honest ETA comes with the price. Text (657) 478-8248 with your building or street, a photo of the lock and, if it sticks, a short video of the key turning.
Very likely. Corrosion builds up on the pins and springs inside the cylinder. Often cleaning and the right lubricant fixes it. If parts are too far gone, we replace the cylinder with one that handles salt better. Do not force a stiff key, since that is how keys break.
Leave the broken piece where it is and keep the half you still have. Text us a photo of both. We extract the piece, check the lock for damage, and cut you a new key from the code or the old key if possible.
Your lease or HOA rules decide that. Many management companies want to hold a copy of the key or use their own vendor. Ask them first, and if they say yes, we rekey your unit and mailbox in one visit.
