Big houses up here tend to collect keys: one for the front, one for the side, one nobody can match to anything. We come to you, sort out what you have, and leave you with fewer keys and locks that actually work.
La Cañada Flintridge sits right under the San Gabriels, and the lots are big. Long driveways, mature oaks, and houses set well back from streets like Foothill Boulevard, Commonwealth and Chevy Chase. Many homes are custom builds from the 1930s through the 1960s, and plenty have been added onto since, so one house can have five or six outside doors from five different decades. Up in Flintridge the streets wind and climb, and a lot of properties sit behind a driveway gate. Down on Foothill you get small offices, shops and restaurants. It is a quiet town, and most calls we get are about houses, not storefronts.
Older custom homes here often still have mortise locks: the tall box inside the door with a separate cylinder. They are well made and usually worth keeping, so we service or rekey them rather than tearing them out. Next to them you will find French doors, a newer handleset someone added in a remodel, and a driveway gate with its own lock. That mix is the real problem. We can usually bring the doors that matter onto one key, and where a cylinder is worn past saving, we replace just that one. If you want tighter key control, we can fit high-security cylinders that cannot be copied at a hardware store.
From the middle of the Valley it is about 14 miles, so plan on 35–60 minutes depending on the 210 and the hour. Text (657) 478-8248 with your ZIP (91011), a photo of the lock or key, and a note if there is a gate or a long private drive. We send a price and an arrival time before we roll.
Usually, yes. If the locks are from brands that share a keyway, we rekey them to match. If one or two are odd, we swap just those cylinders. We look first, tell you which doors can share a key, and price it before we start.
Not usually. Mortise bodies from that era last a long time. Often the cylinder is worn or the latch is sticky, and both can be serviced or rekeyed on site. If the body itself is broken, we tell you, show you why, and price the fix before doing anything.
Send us a pin or clear directions with your text, plus the gate code or a number to call when we arrive. GPS gets lost on some of the Flintridge streets, so a quick note from you saves real time.
